Franklin Farm

Welcome to Franklin Farm. 

Originally family farmers from Zimbabwe we resettled to the beautiful rural Dordogne countryside in France during 2004. We have a flock of 300 ewes, a drift of 20 pigs, a small herd of 20 goats, 4 cats, 3 dogs, 3 children, some chickens and ducks. Both the butchery and farming sides of our enterprise are run by ourselves Gavin and Helen Franklin with occasional  help from our lovely children.

Our fully certified farm butchery has been in operation since 2011. We prepare all our own meat products for resale direct to our clients.  Our high quality pork products are prepared using either locally sourced pork from a reputable local farmer or from our small drift of Gascon and Berkshire pigs. 

We make British and continental style sausages including Cumberland, Lincolnshire, Breakfast, Italian, fresh Chorizo. Our home produced lamb, as well as being prepared into joints and chops, is also made into a range of meatballs, burgers and sausages depending on time of year, the weather and client demand.

The butchery is located in a hamlet called “Le Grand Bâtard” in the commune of Eygurande et Gardedeuilh, which is in the Dordogne but very close to the Gironde, Charente and Charente-Maritime borders.

The sheep and goats are raised outdoors on natural pasture, producing a delicately flavoured meat product of high quality with a low fat cover. We do not use any genetically modified grain in the supplementary food we mix ourselves to feed to the animals at certain times of year. Our farm is located on very heavy clay soils so during the very wet times the sheep may be housed in a warm, dry, spacious barn, where they have access to locally produced hay at all times and silage made from locally grown maize.

We have lamb available all year round, all of which is sold direct to the public either via the local markets at Riberac, in the Dordogne and Sainte-Foy-la-Grande, in the Gironde. We also have a few delivery routes in the local area and the butchery is open on a Saturday morning, 11am till 1pm.

We attend 3 markets per week Ribérac on a Friday morning, Ste Foy La Grande and Eygurande et Gardedeuilh on a Saturday morning.

There are various delivery points and routes in our area where you can purchase our products. If you do not see anything that looks like it will suit you then you can always make a suggestion for a new route.
