Overview: Ireland is known as the Republic of Ireland and called Éire in Irish. The Parliament of Ireland consists of the Senate and a Lower House. The Shamrock (a type of clover) is the national symbol of Ireland. As is the harp which is a registered trademark of the country. The longest place name in Ireland is Muckanaghederdauhaulia. The highest point in Ireland is Mount Carrantuohill with its 1041 meters. 

History:  Celtic tribes arrived on the island between 600-150 B.C. Gaelic Ireland emerged by the 1st century AD. The island was Christianised from the 5th century onward. A war of independence in the early 20th century was followed by the partition of the island, creating the Irish Free State.

Food and Drink: World famous Guinness beer is from Ireland, and originated in the Dublin brewery of Arthur Guinness. Irish stew, potato scones, bread, seafood, including salmon, scallops, lobster, mussels, and oysters and a variety of fresh meat.
